4 browsers - Firefox, Safari, Camino and SeaMonkey

Since web browsers are free, you may want to use several!

There are four different web browsers installed on the Macs in the middle school. Each has its unique purpose and/or advantage:
  • Firefox: it's open source; most frequently used browser in the District; fewer compatibility issues than Safari.
  • Safari: preinstalled on all Macs; only browser to support the contextual menu: "Add Image to iPhoto Library"; we manage with Workgroup Manager (manage means that the server can send the homepage preference to each user, etc.); has a nice, built-in RSS Feed reader http://mactoids.com/add-web-images-to-iphoto-in-two-clicks/
  • Camino: it's open source, fast; we could manage Camino with Workgroup Manager (we don't right now) http://caminobrowser.org/features/
  • SeaMonkey: it's open source; only installed on Intel Macs; has an HTML editor which is like Netscape Composer / Claris Homepage for those who still need to do some HTML editing http://www.seamonkey-project.org/doc/features
